The experience
Gua sha is an old technique and a slow one. Worked properly, with a smooth Bian stone and a well-chosen facial oil, it becomes one of the most pleasant hours you can spend on your face.
After cleansing, your therapist applies a botanical oil and begins working outward from the centre of the face in long, repeated strokes. The stones are used cool and unheated, and the sequence takes in the jaw, cheekbones, brow, the sides of the neck and the space behind the ears that almost nobody thinks about until someone touches it.
The face looks a little more defined afterwards and the jaw feels distinctly less clenched. The effect is temporary, which we would rather say plainly, and it is also cumulative for guests who come regularly or who take the home technique seriously.

- Arrival
- Arrive 5 minutes early. No preparation is needed beyond arriving without heavy make-up if convenient.
- Suitable for
- Most skin types. Not performed over active acne, rosacea flare-ups, recent injectables or broken skin.
- Aftercare
- Mild warmth or pinkness settles within an hour. Drink water and keep the evening routine gentle.
- Good to know
- Pressure is light to medium. This is a facial technique, not the firm body version of gua sha.
