The experience

Deep tissue is often misunderstood as simply harder pressure. In practice it is slower pressure, held longer and applied with more precision, which is why a good deep-tissue massage rarely feels like something to be endured.

The session starts with a short assessment of how you move and where the restriction sits. Your therapist then works methodically through those areas, using forearms and elbows where broad pressure helps and fingers where precision matters, checking in as the work deepens.

Sixty minutes suits one or two problem areas. Ninety allows the whole back, hips and legs to be addressed properly, with time at the end for lighter, flowing work so you leave settled rather than stirred up.

Benefits

  • Slow, sustained pressure rather than simply firmer strokes
  • Focused work on the areas of restriction you identify
  • Helps ease stubborn tension in the back, shoulders and hips
  • Finishes with lighter flowing work so you leave calm
  • Suits regular training loads and long hours at a desk
